In keeping with its commitment to mainstreaming new trends in journalism and accelerating continued adoption, Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism (RCDIJ) has expanded its capacity development reach for African journalists through the introduction of a hybrid training content integrating Geo-Journalism with Solutions Journalism.
This year, our dedicated platform for this important endeavour —RCDIJ Data Journalism Masterclass— will be focusing on Climate/Environment-focused Solutions Journalism, helping to guide African journalists into this relatively new area of journalism, especially in many parts of the continent, towards a more far-reaching and impactful journalism practice.
Our goal is to empower journalists to effectively report on the environment, with special focus on interventions geared towards fighting climate change and improving the environment. Beneficiaries of our training will learn how to integrate data collection, analysis, visualization and reporting for a holistic coverage of the environment, with special focus on impact assessment of solutions being deployed.
We believe empowering journalists to provide this service will help in the great cause of reversing the effects of climate change and boosting environmental sustainability.
Our esteemed resource partners for this masterclass include: Google, Code for Africa, Climate Home News, and Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ).
The event is supported by Ripples Nigeria, Dangote Group, Eco-Nai+, Ziuss Energy & Power, Jet Motor Company, Naija News, NaijaBlog Gist, and Naija News Now.
As a special contribution to geo-journalism in Africa, participants will, among other things, enjoy a special 6-month FREE access to the advanced geo-journalism tools on Nigeria’s first dedicated digital geo-journalism platform— www.econaiplus.com— courtesy of Eco-Nai+.
